Deborah adopted her middle name, Lynn, when she came to Huntsville. She moved from Kansas during her Senior year which is a very difficult time to make such a move. I became acquainted with Lynn when we went to Auburn and became pretty good friends. I think there was always something missing in her life at that time. We kind of lost touch when I left Auburn and started going to UAH. She graduated from Auburn in journalism and got a job in New York City. She had a boy friend and from what I heard was happier than ever. Unfortunately she was hit by a car while jogging over 4th of July weekend in 1987(?). Very tragic end to such a short life.
Somehow my recollection of her was we called her Debbie, at least in an English class we shared, as I recall. She was smart and funny, and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales were the source of many laughs between us. She was editor for the Auburn Plainsman when I transferred to Auburn in 1983, and she was going by "Lynne". Later I was shocked to hear she had passed away. Did a little digging recently and found this, but nothing more: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/116559556/d-lynne-hopkins
I remember Lynn well. Didn't really meet her in High School, but got to know her at Auburn. We hung out off and on throughout our time there. I remember how sad her funeral was because she did seem very happy with her life in NY.
