In Memory

Mariam Antonios (Steele)

On Saturday, February 13, 2021, Mariam Antonios Steele, 57, peacefully left her earthly home for her eternal Heavenly home. Mariam was born in Gastonia, North Carolina but lived the majority of her life in Huntsville, Alabama. She graduated from Grissom High School in 1981 and received her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She was an accomplished Interior Decorator and successful Realtor for over 25 years.

Mariam was an active member at Faith Presbyterian Church. She served as an Elder, sang in the choir and played the handbells. One of her favorite acts of service was respite care. She loved volunteering to care for special needs children so their parents could enjoy a date night. Outside of church, Mariam served her community as a past President of the Huntsville/Madison County Women’s Council.

Mariam lived life to the fullest. She and Steve traveled the world together. Those trips created so many special memories but she easily had just as much fun cheering on The Tide in Tuscaloosa. Of all their travels, the sugar white sand beaches of the Emerald Coast was where Mariam felt most at peace. Mariam enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of her time walking, reading by the pool and boating at the lake. She loved entertaining and lived in a way that others always felt welcomed in her home. Mariam leaves behind countless friends, all of whom would say she brought out the best in everyone. She was a doting wife, mother and “Mimi”. Mariam celebrated everything & had a special way of making sure everyone knew how much she loved them. Her smile was infectious & brightened every room she entered. Her vivacious personality lives on in the memories and in the lives of all those she touched.

Mariam was preceded in death by her father, Hikmat “Tony” Antonios and father-in-law, Joe Steele. Survivors include her beloved husband of 35 years, Steve Steele; her children, Lauren Kling (Phillips) and Josh Steele (Molly); 4 Granddaughters: Sela & Scarlett Steele, Collins & Lennon Kling; mother, Joanna Antonios; mother-in-law, Willena Steele; sister, Monique Fleming (Mike); brother, Rasheed Antonios; brothesr-in-law, Michael Steele, Steve Cawthon (Lynn); sisters-in-law, Mae Beth Chiarella (Sam) and Teena Watson (Jake) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
